Leicestershire Police – expected demands on Saturday 7 July 2018 and the impact on resources
I wanted to update you, as key individuals, that Leicestershire Police are predicting a significantly increased demand across the force area this Saturday due to the England football match, kicking off at 3pm.
As England have progressed we have experienced levels of calls for service that have been comparable, or exceeding, New Year’s Eve. Following the match on July 3, we took a 999 call every minute for three hours between 10pm and 1am.
To ensure that we meet the increased demands across the whole of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, we will be using neighbourhood policing officers, response teams, and specialist resources.
This may mean that some of our neighbourhood teams will be utilised away from their normal duties. Our police community support officers will still be working and tackling local concerns
We encourage that people only contact the police if absolutely necessary due to the expected demands. Alternatively, they can report online to us at https://leics.police.uk/report-online
For those of you that provide services to the public you may want to:
– Ensure you have you have cover to meet any increased demand across the remaining potential England games
– Ensure that your on call rotas are clear and available
– Check that your teams that enforce noise legislation are available if needed
For those with licensing responsibilities you may want to:
– Ensure that licensees are meeting their responsibilities about crime and disorder
– Ensure that your licensing teams are available
– Carefully consider any late applications for events
We are right behind England as they play in the World Cup Quarter Final – and any further upcoming matches. These are: Wednesday 11 July at 7pm, Saturday 14 July at 3pm, with the final itself kicking off at 4pm on Sunday 15 July.

There is a large contingent of travellers due to be removed from Greenhill by the Police on Friday evening. We have been asked to remain vigilant and to ensure all green spaces are secured as intelligence shows that they’re highly likely to remain in the area!
Please could you make sure that gates are secured.
